Smoke Alarm Compliance

Queensland's smoke alarm legislation requires all homes to have interconnected smoke alarms installed in every bedroom, hallway and on each level of the property. As of 1 January 2022, all new dwellings and those undergoing renovations must meet these requirements, with existing homeowners required to comply by 2027 for owner-occupied properties (rental properties already require compliance). Alarms must be photoelectric, hardwired or powered by a non-removable 10-year battery, and interconnected so that all alarms activate simultaneously.
